Empowerment. With the Cyberways and Waterways® program, students have the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary real-world skills such as data analysis, graphical presentation, interpretation, critical thinking, information synthesis, and communication using the environment as a contextual framework for learning.
In essence, they become empowered to take ownership of their education and become active learners.
The program:
- Engages students in practical every day life experiences
- Appeals to the diversity of student populations
- Provides an online community and a means of collaboration among schools through discussion boards. Is helpful for students in rural areas
- Gives students the tools to see their community with a global vision
- Motivates students to take action on issues in their local ecosystems
- Is bilingual for Spanish speaking students and teachers
- Creates a rich learning environment for students in the classroom
- Online chats allow students to share information and learn from each other, as well as from leading scientists, Pulitzer prize winning authors, and Fortune 500 CEOs
- Provides a means to develop projects with other schools across cultural and geographical borders
- Helps students share their work with others in the community
