This year, the Austin Film Festival and the Young Filmmakers Program are celebrating their 10th anniversary. We received many quality film and screenplay submissions for our 2002 Filmmakers Competition and Student Short Screenplay Competition and plan to receive many more for this year’s competitions, as both contests will both be open nationwide.
The Young Filmmakers Program partners with 4empowerment to sponsor the Student Short Screenplay Competition. The competition encourages students to improve their writing and storytelling skills by recognizing and rewarding their achievements. The Student Short Screenplay Competition aims to bring a greater awareness to the screenplay as an art form by commending the talent and accomplishments of burgeoning screenwriters. Winners of the competitions will be acknowledged in the 2003 Austin Film Festival Program Book and recognized at the Awards Luncheon during the Austin Film Festival. Winners will also receive two complimentary all-access Producers Passes to the 2003 Austin Film Festival, which provide admission to all panels, all films, invitations to the Opening Night Premiere and Reception at the historic Paramount Theatre, invitations to the Goverenor's Mansion BBQ. The ten best films will be screened at the Capital Building. For out of town winning students, AFF will provide reimbursement of two round trip airfares to Austin to attend the 2003 AFF (up to $500) and with hotel accommodation at an AFF hotel (up to $500) during the Festival.
The Young Filmmakers Competition and the Student Short Screenplay Competition are open to all students in grades 6 through 12. All students who submit their film and/or screenplay by the early deadline of Friday, May 23, 2003, will have their names entered in a raffle to win FINAL DRAFT Professional Screenwriting Software.
