Description: The "Helping Kids Cope" Kit was developed by Dr. Jeannine Hirtle, Dr. Mary Lynn Crow, and the Bluebonnet Writing Project of the University of Texas at Arlington. The activities in this kit are designed to use reading, writing, and discussion to help students deal with the after-effects of natural disasters. Enclosed in this kit is a lesson template, background information concerning the psychological aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and best practices on how to communicate with children impacted by trauma.
