Name: Dr. Sean Gulick

Title: Research Associate, Institute of Geophysics (UTIG), Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin

Job Description: Sean is a research scientist and his primary scientific interest is in the examination of deformation in convergent margins and the complex transitional tectonics that occur in microplate environments. At UTIG, Sean teaches graduates students how to process data, interpret data, write a scientific paper, and analyze other scientific papers. He also writes and publishes his own scientific papers. He is responsible for the planning of new scientific cruises and funding for new proposed science studies.

Sean has been engaged by science most of his life. As a research scientist, he spends his time studying subduction and collision zones where oceanic plates are diving beneath continents or microplates are colliding with continents. To collect data about tectonic forces that cause earthquakes and tsunamis, Sean travels 2-3 months out of the year and has been over two mile beneath the ocean's surface!
